DavidHOST
25:00
Well, look, yes, I'm always distracted in that sequence by...
DavidHOST
25:04
Now, I know a lot of other podcasters and television researchers and historians and nerds are much better at identifying stock BBC set and costumes, but I'd just like to point out when those three peasants are sitting on that log together, the one on the far right of screen, I'm not sure if it's Hale or Pace, whichever one of those two it is, he is wearing a costume from Blake's Seven.
DavidHOST
25:29
How did you
LewisHOST
25:29
find that
MatthewHOST
8:58
and I bet you know correct me if I'm wrong but throughout university and that your experiences of all these games was there ever a hint that this could be a career for me or did you always just see it as sort of play time?
Chris BirchGUEST
9:11
So me and Stuart we always used to dream like one day we'll have a games company and we'll you know all the desks will look like Blake 7 and you know have all those little flashing lights on them and we'll have like you know electric doors and we kind of i think we kind of daydreamed of one day we could do all that you know but never never thought much of it of course and you know i was in i was in music businesses never that wasn't going to change and um but we kept writing game ideas we wrote a game called blaster array that was a little bit Savage Worlds, but with miniatures, and it was an RPG, and it was our own world, and it was set in a artificial star system called Modiphius, spelled with an F, which became the name of the company, funnily enough.
Chris BirchGUEST
9:55
So when I came up with the name, I was like, well, also, you want to find a good .com address, and when you make up a name, it's easy.
Chris BirchGUEST
10:03
And I'd always thought, you know what, that was a great name, and I spelled it P-H, Modiphius, M-O-D-I-P-H. and um um it was just you know felt right you know it's kind of harking back to those early those early years of writing games and stuff but i'd never i mean even when we started doing action cathedral was our first our first rpg it was just like well this will maybe this will pay for a weekend away once a year like if i do these rpgs and it will something i wanted to do for fun and i had a t-shirt company at the time And I never dreamed that it would start a company, but the Kickstarter did so well that we were like, oh, we better take this seriously and start a company.
Tom GrantHOST
54:45
Who planet of fire.
Tom GrantHOST
54:46
Um, she shows up in Blake seven as supposedly, but not, You've seen her in Blake 7.
Tom GrantHOST
54:53
I haven't yet because I haven't seen all the seasons yet.
Steven TaylorHOST
54:56
It's also timey-wimey.
JacksonGUEST
6:24
And you can't afford to enjoy this show.
JacksonGUEST
6:27
So I went to Blake 7 instead.
JacksonGUEST
6:29
No, no, no.
JacksonGUEST
6:33
But I did try and watch the second film and I just fell asleep.
DanHOST
22:50
He will be wanting it back.
MichaelHOST
22:54
I get the feeling Graham Bonnet might just Blake Seven the shit out of that
DanHOST
22:58
and keep that for himself.
DanHOST
23:00
Yeah.
Stephen GreifSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
22:17
Oh, that would be inconspicuous.
Richard JamesHOST
22:19
And this is an actor called Stephen Griff, who had been in Blake Seven on the BBC previously.
speaker_7SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
22:24
I think
Richard JamesHOST
22:25
he's still around.
Richard JamesHOST
22:27
Is he not around? A couple of years gone, I think,
Henry ShieldsGUEST
22:29
yeah.
Henry ShieldsGUEST
22:32
Blake Seven, I have a strange connection to.
Henry ShieldsGUEST
22:34
I can't remember her name.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
12:28
They don't get it right or they don't get it any more right than they feel that they need to.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
12:34
One of the things that you taught me about what makes a good production, Peter, is is that because the sets are in view all the time and they really make a difference to just how the show looks, the sets here are like the sets in Blake 7.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
12:50
They are more detailed and more complicated and maybe a bit more interesting even than Genesis of Daleks.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
12:59
Like Genesis of Daleks is a very assured production and it just generally much better executed than this.

28 MINS LATER

Nathan BottomleyHOST
40:49
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
40:50
He does.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
40:50
And so this weird disco tights thing, which is also very Blake 70.
Nathan BottomleyHOST
40:55
It's like what the altars wear or whatever in Redemption.
MattHOST
27:10
Oh, okay.
MattHOST
27:11
So they're doing that little series thing.
MattHOST
27:13
And it's actually, the sex in it is really hot.
MattHOST
27:16
I mean, him and Jonah together are a good pair.

20 MINS LATER

WeegeeHOST
47:24
happens to like, you know.
WeegeeHOST
47:27
Well, I did complain about the
MattHOST
47:29
ending of the series Blake 7 the other day and said it was the worst series ending episode ever.
MattHOST
47:36
Hmm.
ChrisHOST
47:01
number
DaveHOST
47:01
one? So camschool6270, because I'm sure that's important, said there wasn't a lot of choice, but using Trumpet Winsock with Windows 95 found a discussion group about Blake's 7.
DaveHOST
47:17
classic British sci-fi Oric where I found a group of people into the same things which helped the next year with the Port Arthur Massacre can't believe it's been 30 years
JasonHOST
47:31
Ben 1 Music had connect to local BBSs in New York City in the early 1980s.
Rob IrwinHOST
8:18
I really don't know.
Dave KitchenHOST
8:19
I mean, you know, this is like Blake 7 coming into existence because it took the Softly Softly Task Force budget.
Dave KitchenHOST
8:25
I remember Red Dwarf came into existence because something else folded unexpectedly.
Dave KitchenHOST
8:30
So they're like, just give them that budget.

25 MINS LATER

Rob IrwinHOST
33:47
Because I guess you can't keep doing wink and a nod in the text all the time.
Rob IrwinHOST
33:50
That would get old.
Dave KitchenHOST
33:51
No, but just as an aside, Rob, there was even a Blake 7 one there where the line was exactly one that Servaland says in the episode Aftermath.
Dave KitchenHOST
34:00
And I was reading it in Servaland's voice, the, I want to see him here and I want to see him now.
