Today, you know, the kids is in school and they got a lot of resources that we didn't have back in the day.

AI, they got Blackboard.

We had Blackboard after I'd been in school several years, but we had Blackboard and stuff.

And they would tell you your assignments due, upcoming due dates, stuff currently due, stuff past due.

We didn't have all that.

I use three different learning management systems, LMS.

One is Blackboard, one is D2L, one is Canvas.

Not a single one of them has a program built into it to scan or review the student essays for AI, uh, you know, cheating basically.

Wow.

And I just kind of went on, I logged into the website.

I started doing the tasks from the Blackboard Elite, which is essentially the website where you check your tasks.

your lectures and like the recordings of your lectures and even your grades so I just kind of started going through every single thing on the website and see what's going on in there and to be fair for like the first few weeks it was quite hard but when I went in to do the actual induction and when we've been told about those websites and things I already knew about them because I just kind of cracked on my advice to people is that whenever you get the password the email whenever you get accepted from that moment i advise you to go to just go on the website and try and find out what what all those things are for basically

Yeah, exactly.

You mentioned, yeah, you just sort of cracked one and did it, which is, you know, excellent.

Would you have any, maybe for students that maybe find that a bit challenging, maybe would you have any tips for them about the transition to new independent self-discipline study?

When you get your reading list, when your courses open on Blackboard Elite, I advise you to start going through the reading list as soon as you can.

Try and keep on with your reading because once you've missed something, you're going to have to go through a lot.

So Canva isn't limited to Google Classroom.

It also integrates with several other learning management systems, including Canvas, Schoology, Moodle, D2L, and Blackboard.

So this typically requires LMS administrator access, so it may need to be enabled by your school or district level administrators.

And again, that's by the technical administrator, probably not your, uh, campus principal, although it could be.

So that just like read the paper and see what it does is I think nice.

And another thing, and this is also something you could do in a requirements engineering course if you happen to be teaching such a course, Hannah, then I do think you can ask students to analyze any software system, something they built themselves or that they're doing the requirements analysis for or something that exists already in the world and ask yourself, What social configuration does this software require or encourage? And I think in another episode, I gave the example of our LMS, which is Canvas, but other people might have Brightspace or Blackboard or whatever.

That's This requires me, for example, this software to, before my lecture starts, put in the homework.

So if I'm lecturing, I cannot say, hey, you know, it would also be fun to do this and this, because then I have to go to my laptop and put it on Canvas and students will raise your hand and say, oh, but this homework is not on the website yet.
