Black rat

By one careful count, three are around 57 reliable records in all, most holding between three and a dozen animals, a few reaching into the 30s.

In nearly every case, the rats were Rattus Rattus, the old black house rat with the long and supple tail.

To the people who found them, rat kings were never a curiosity.

They were a verdict.
