We need to talk about like your location because you're born and raised in Nova Scotia and the album of course is called 1783 and this is the year that over 3,000 black loyalists resettled in Nova Scotia and I'm a bit ashamed and I don't think I'm alone that when I was growing up we never learned about this history at all in school.

So with this record what did you want the rest of Canada to know about Halifax both from the past and the present?

I just wanted folks to really understand that black folks are in Nova Scotia.

It's crazy to me to know that there's some people around Canada that literally don't know the history, like the black history in Nova Scotia.

And I was just happy to be able to contribute with this album, getting folks to understand like, yo, blacks have been here for a long time.

And 1783, yes, is the year that black loyalists came into Nova Scotia.

It's also where I can trace an ancestor as far back as 1783, a little bit before 1783.
