Black Cake

Yeah, I was thinking of the, the shows that I know of.

Like, I just finished reading this book called Black Cake-

Mm

... and they had turned it into some- something, some show or something, but it was really good and, and there was one, Little Fires Everywhere, um-

He's, for me, the most talented young actor in the Caribbean, and certainly in Jamaica, in my opinion.

Um, and it was funny 'cause that was the brief that I gave, uh, Kareem Blake Chin, our casting director, who's an amazing casting director and someone I regard as a friend now, you know? Um, and she's cast things like the Bob Marley's One Love and Black Cake, the Hulu series, and so she's really es- esteemed.

And I remember saying to her that for this film, quite simply because of what it will require and the lack of dialogue and how much I value silence in performance in general, it's gonna require the most special young actor on the island.

And she said, "Have you considered Jamari Roberts?" And she sent me a few things to look at, and I remember sharing it with my team and me, myself, and just being like, "Okay, that's him.

They are reuniting.

They're set to star in a new drama series for Hulu called You Deserve to Know.

Which just on its own is huge news for that fan base.

Totally.

They have Dead Letters set up at Netflix, um, with Lucy Hale.

Right.

Tanen is even co-writing a series adaptation of Tinks' book, The Shift, for Amazon, also under the Capital banner.

They are literally blanketing the broadcast and streaming ecosystem.

Um, the other, like, another adaptation that I thought was amazing that no one g- it, it got no credit whatsoever, so I just want to give it a shout-out, it's not a romance.

Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson.

Mm.

Um, the adaptation came out ...

...

this adaptation got absolutely no love whatsoever.

So if you read Black Cake and you didn't hear that there was an adaptation, 'cause that was a bestselling book, um, then my recommendation-

I have to get it

Laura Dave's The Last Thing He Told Me starring Jennifer Garner.

And Charmaine Wilkerson's Black Cake.

There was an interview with Mia Isaac about the power of storytelling for that one, right?

Yes.
