You can also do a progesterone that you take every day.

Orally, some people like the Nexplanon, which is the arm implant.

Um, some people like the depo shot.

I don't love that one.

So, yeah, that's really important.

Just a quick question for me about the Nexplanon, which is the implantable progesterone.

You have it inserted under the skin of your upper arm, usually.

Do you use that at all for migraine? Has it been useful or is it purely for contraception?

If you are on hormonal birth control, so depending on what birth control you're on, if you are on the pill, I think a lot of women, because they still get a period on the pill, they think that they are like cycling and going through all of these phases, but you are not.

So if you are on any hormonal form of birth control, so the pill, the hormonal IUD, the Nexplanon implant, any of these things, you are not cycling.

You are not ovulating.

Your body is producing a steady state of either just estrogen or estrogen and progesterone, depending on what you are on.

They never took the sugar pills, you know, because they just didn't want to deal with that crap.

Or have that Implanon or have the Mirena or, you know, not that I had, there's anything wrong with that.

I think contraceptive choice is a good thing, but it has consequences in the body.

IBF has consequences in the body.

Yeah, so there's not a lot of really good options.

Things like Nexplanon and Depo-Provera, those are for young people who can't remember to take their pills.

There's too many side effects and issues.

I don't use those in women in their 40s.

My job was to teach the nurse practitioners contraceptive management, IUD insertion, Nexplanon, et cetera, implants, whatever, and handle the high-risk patients, whether they needed a colposcopy or abnormal pap smear counseling, a mammogram referral, et cetera.

So I did that for a while.

Then eventually I worked for the state office of public health.
