Hello, and welcome to another episode on the New Books Network.

I'm one of your hosts, Dr. Miranda Melcher, and I'm very pleased to welcome back onto the podcast Alistair Moffat, who is here to tell us about his latest book, published by Berlin in 2026, titled Assassins and Secret Listeners: Britain's Invisible Armies, 1939 to '45, which takes us, as the subtitle suggests, into World War II, but n- not to the sort of front lines against the Nazis or the Japanese, um, not even outside of Britain really.

Yes, we're talking about Britain's invisible armies, but they're mostly at home doing all sorts of intriguing things.

So we've got quite a number of topics, I think, to discuss.

Uh, and I think he killed himself, didn't he, in the early 1950s.

And so it took a long time for it to relax.

And then when the Berlin Wall comes down in 1989, then ...

And it appears that the Cold War is over, then there's more relaxed coverage allowed, uh, of, of these stories.
