If you saw Bob Hurley walking around the boardroom show this next month with a $60,000 Hermes Birkin, would you be like, Oh, here we go.

I don't know what you mean by game on, but I would be, I'd have a lot of questions.

I'd be like, why are you holding a purse personally? Second of all, what's an Hermes Birkin?

I think I'll, uh, have, uh, what's his dude, Hovland.

Is that his name? The star of the world cup, the Norwegian soccer player.

The only people buying them are high net worth individuals.

And I'm saying, okay, well, I'm not gonna sit here and I'm not gonna do a podcast about why a Birkin is amazing.

They already want it.

So what I'm gonna do instead is I'm gonna create some sort of editorial piece around the fact that I'm getting people in to have conversations about fashion.

Like, who are these people? Where are they in lifestyle? Why would the person that's going to buy a Birkin from me listen to this person? And why is that conversation interesting to them? I don't know.

There could be a multitude of reasons, but identify what they are.

I couldn't sit here and say what that is now.

But at the end of the day, I want them to buy a Birkin.

Like this actually came up on this Hermes episode about how they're defining luxury is like the Birkin bag and the Kelly bag, for instance.

It has little to do with function.

So luxury has almost nothing to do with functionality.

But it did make me think of luxury as objects without functionality.

It's not completely true.

A Birkin started as a diaper bag.

It was a matter of function.

Louis Vuitton, yeah.

You know, how do you think of that kind of change in fashion? Like you get a luxury going so accessible, but still really inaccessible because you'll see these like football players with a $20,000 Birkin, but it's on NFL Sunday, which means that most people watching could never afford that, but now they're seeing it for the first time.

I'm so glad you brought this up because I've just been circling around, you know, the merger of sports and fashion.

And obviously we've just had the World Cup.

interesting to see.

But yeah, to your point, at times it does also feels like, damn, y'all are really rubbing our faces sometimes.

and I don't have his name but there's an athlete I think he's of Ghanaian heritage I think he's in the NBA and he wears a lot of traditional African attire especially West African attire he creates and like he goes super viral in like you know Nigerian Twitter Ghanaian like the diaspora go up for him so when you see something like that you're just like oh this is dope right when they do something interesting but otherwise it's a bit like okay you can afford a $10,000 jacket right And then I get pissed off when a man has a Birkin bag that I want.

And they're like, well, you've overpriced all this stuff I see.

And they're angry because they think they're going to come and get a Birkin for $20 and you've got it priced at $5,000.

Yeah.

I think we did not hear that.

to ask it from a business owner's standpoint of view is there liability for your company like you know hey you know this this the executor finds out You undersold those.

I mean, so many of these, so many, honestly, even more people.

Kanye West had thrown, I think when he was with Julia Fox, when he gave everybody a Birkin at her birthday party.

It's attracted like a lot, I mean, a lot of, literally a lot.

I mean, Uma Thurman.

I'm seeing apartments in River Valley and Tanjung Pagar.

We're seeing luxury goods from, you know, your Hermes Birkins to your Patek Philippe's to your Audemars Piguet's.

You know, stuff that people save up their whole life to buy sometimes or to mark an important milestone, the birth of your first son, you buy this special watch.

or your daughter graduating and you get this bag, that kind of thing, right? It's this world of luxury goods, this world of excess, this world of high end.
