Birch Aquarium

You look at things like what we've learned from the giant panda or koala conservation or the California condor or the list goes on.

I mean, go back to even just the other episode we did the other day about the little red octopus and how she was able to use data and information from similar species and apply that then to the care for those babies that resulted in now having juveniles at the Birch Aquarium.

So it's a great example right there.

Nobody else had done that work yet, but the other work that had been done was able to be applied.

you know this all because you've been listening.

So anyhow, long story short, I found myself at the Birch Aquarium.

I asked around.

They've got a million awesome stories to share, but the story we're sharing today is probably most topical because if we wait too long and tell other stories first, then you might miss out on the opportunity to see one of the coolest things you could possibly see at an aquarium as far as I'm concerned.

And I say that because I don't think right now there's any other aquarium that we know of that has this particular individual at this life stage that you could potentially go see.

Which means other humans probably haven't seen these very much, if at all.

So therefore, if you go to the Birch Aquarium and you see these individuals, you'll be one of very few humans on this planet who has had the opportunity to see these little guys.

So with that, I purposely am evading saying the species.

And it's my just absolute great pleasure to be here at Birch Aquarium.

It's one of my favorite places.

And it's a special honor to be part of this Jeffrey Brigham Perspective in Ocean Sciences.

There are different populations of animals living under different conditions and that existing diversity, if we understand it and we can see what it's for and what it might be better at, that's a huge source of hope to be able to find solutions.

And then maybe at a larger scale, in addition to the work that we're doing ourselves, we are catalyzing scientific policy making and public engagement around environmental neurobiology.

A big part of is what we're doing here at the Birch Aquarium.

We're gonna tell you more later, but it's a little bit going behind the idea that if you get, especially neurobiology sounds very intimidating, like it did to me.
