The following year, the U.S.

Biological Survey, USBS, and American Waterfowlers Association, AWA, Biologists, estimated that duck numbers were down by 50% from previous counts.

One biologist was serious when he suggested that Gulf Coast waterfowlers target coots to give ducks a respite and even offered his favorite coot recipes.

By 1931, the USBS reported that 90% of PPR wetlands were dry and the breeding season was, quote, a complete failure.

Its death, like Amy's and the first bear's, lies squarely on Treadwell's shoulders.

Biologist Larry Vandale from Kodiak was charged with performing the necropsies on the two dead bears, but worsening weather kept him from flying to Coplea for two days, and by the time he arrived, the bears were beginning to decay.

Other bears had been feeding on the smaller one, but the larger bear's carcass was still intact.

Vandale performed a necropsy on this bear and later described in his report what he'd found in the bear's digestive tract.

and there were those, of course, that came back fine, but different.

It is possible that some expeditions, like the Biologist, spent years and even decades within Area X, before either dying of old age, or dying by some other means, or being transformed into some other biological form.

Those that came back unharmed simply entered Area X within a time stream that was aligned with our own, and for whatever reason were not infected by Area X.

But those who came back themselves, but not, have a different explanation.
