Billy Walker

Yeah, and it's also a time to reflect, isn't it, on those lost, and I'm sure we will tonight, that have passed away in the last 12 months or so, which is a sad but also a very, uh, uplifting moment for everyone just to recognize that their impact on, on us as individuals.

Myself, I spoke about the impact of, of, uh, Billy Walker on me when he was president, but John Todd was my coach.

Um, and the impact he had, had on me as a person at that stage of my life, and we should never for- forget those, uh, those people.

And Toddy's story, I mean, a teenage prodigy.

So it's just amazing that these players and, you know, h- how good are they, or how good were they? So tonight is a night for us to reflect, and I'm sure they'll, they'll do the right thing up on stage with those people and the graphics and that type of stuff.

But yeah, there'll be another name etched into, into that history tonight.

And you mentioned Billy Walker.

Long overdue, he was, uh, recognized in Australian Football Hall of Fame as a legend earlier this year.

That was Connie Smith and Nat Stuckey, and I got you from their album Young Love.

Before that, we heard Billy Walker, and I guess things happen that way.

So this was a super interesting record called Billy Walker Plays the Big Country Hits, and it actually used to be in circulation at the library in my hometown of Stoughton, Wisconsin.

So I'm holding it up if you walk into the studio in the next 10 seconds.

You'll see that it's got a barcode and then a little sticker with a Dewey Decimal code of 78.9 for Country and Western.

It goes to Scotland after that.

What? What? Billy Walker, a master blender and distiller, he picks, handpicks the rums in Panama and Jamaica.

Then he sends them over to his distillery, Glen Allakey.

And the Glen Allakey is in the Speyside outside of the Abalour.

As for Bayham, Roy Bayham, I guess is how you pronounce songwriter's name.

Charlie Shoes was his biggest hit, recorded by Billy Walker, which actually topped the country charts that same year.

So he had no success with his Ray Sanders song and he hit the absolute jackpot with Billy Walker's song.

That songwriter also hit big with Jimmy C. Newman's recording of his Blue Lonely Winter in 68.

Unfortunately, both Mr. Sanders and Mr. Baham are long deceased.
