Billy Boy

convinced now that YouTube is an incredible resource for getting at rhythm sections that worked.

When I go to hear Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones play Billy Boy, can she bake a cherry pie Billy Boy at an uptempo? And Philly Joe Jones' brushwork is just amazing.

He is kicking that thing along.

And the bass player... as swallow used to call him generous paul chambers very generous he's just giving and red garland it's a an amazing achievement what they were able to put on a on a recording bouncing full of joy full of uh i don't know it's deeply satisfying to me to go back and be able to hear that and i'm so glad we captured it Because otherwise we wouldn't even know that it had happened.

Experience it differently.

You see what I mean? If this is your experience and your apprehension of what's real right now, go with it because there is room always for new sounds, new configurations, new ways, new tempos.

like speeding up Billy Boy did great things for Red Garland and Philly Joe Jones.

But I thought of it, I said, I can't do that with a brass band.
