But James Dickey's son, James Dickey, the screenplay, um, writer and the author of the book, his son, Christopher Dickey, wrote in his memoir about the film production, Summer of Deliverance.

He said that because Boorman had rewritten so much dialogue for the scene, one of the crewmen suggested that Beatty's character should just squeal like a pig, and that's where it came from.
