Bill McGarry

I totally agree with Sophie.

I've put up with Bill McGarry, Richard Dennis, people like that in the past.

I totally agree with that.

It's going to be an up-and-down season, Steve.

And I don't know how old you are, Savy, Sophie, but at the end of the day, we all have different opinions.

We've all got different experiences and that shapes you as a football supporter.

And like Alan said, he's been through Bill McGarry and Richard Dennis, you know, like we've been through, many of us on here have been through Steve Bruce, Steve McLaren, Gordon Lee.

Yeah, so there you go.

We saw them under Joe Kinnear and Steve Bruce.

We s- you know, some people can go further back, Bill McGarry, uh, Richard Dennis.

You know, you know, people can go back to, you know, further than that, like George, 81 years.

So, you know, I don't think what I would call, like, the, you know, the stalwarts have forgotten.

Made even more astonishing by the fact that the Huddersfield manager was on his way to legendary status at Liverpool, Bill Shankly.

Shanks had a fine team that day, including a future World Cup-winning left-back in Ray Wilson and an England midfielder from the 1954 World Cup, Bill McGarry.

And Ken Taylor would total some 250 outings for the Terriers.

It was just a terrible day at their office.

football equivalent of a Zimmer frame

and he was still, yeah.

The extraordinary thing is, if I think of the best dribblers now, in the Premier League especially, my mind goes to midfielders, number 10s, not to wide players.

My mind goes to Cherky, to Foden, to Palmer.

[laughing]

Um, Ken, McGarry's got sacked.

Arthur Cox comes in.

What you thinking about your future? What did...

Were you on a year's contract, a two-year contract?

I think initially I was just on a year.

But, uh, the big thing for me is when McG- when McGarry left, and like I said, a lot of people didn't like him at the time, but the club were having a hard time to being relegated a couple seasons before, and he had a lot to do with what was going on there.

But, uh, he gave me my chance.
