You just heard Renata Chlumska, who has spent years completing incredible adventures without cutting corners.

Among her long list of accomplishments is conquering the seven summits, that is, climbing to the highest peak on each continent, and completing a solo, unsupported expedition around the perimeter of the United States on bicycle and kayak.

Much of Renata's motivation can be traced back to a time and a place that will be familiar to readers of John Krakauer's bestseller, Into Thin Air, Mount Everest in May 1996, when a freak storm claimed the lives of eight climbers, including famed mountain guides Rob Hall and Scott Fisher.

Renata was at base camp at the time of the disaster.

I was actually in the Black Forest, funny enough, when I realized that everything that truly made me happy, everything I really needed, could be fit on the panniers on a bicycle, and that was the impetus really to be like, if I can do this on a bicycle, a vehicle's gonna be like pure luxury.

Yeah.

Because I was with one of my good friends, Mo.

Just looking over at my, one of my best mates- Got everything you could possibly need inside the bags on a bicycle, and it was really liberating.

And I've had quite a few experiences in my life like that, where I realized that sometimes the things we aspire to, like the, some of the simplest things are like the biggest victories in life.

And similarly, when I started out, I had a job in London originally.

I went for a bike ride and I stuck the gun in my fanny pack.

And by stuck the gun, I was carrying a Sig Sauer, uh, P two, two, six Legion, but it was the SAO.

Right.

Cause apparently that's a big

no, no.

And the same thing for bikes, you know, we could have, we could have pictures, we could roll video.

Like we could, we could do some other things if anyone's interested in seeing things in addition to hearing it.
