Betty Cuthbert

No, not those golden girls.

Australia's original golden girl, Betty Cuthbert, who 62 years ago on the 17th of October 1964 ran her name into the record

books.

Betty Cuthbert has hit the front.

This

would be her fourth gold medal and would make her the only Olympic sprinter in history to win gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 metre races, a record that she still holds today.

Flormelor now leading out.

It's Great Britain, Great Britain and Australia as they come down for the final change.

60 Olympics.

We have Shirley Strickland, Norma Croker, Fleur Mellor, and Betty Cuthbert.

Setting world records, winning relays, winning sprints.

They were the sprinting legends of the time.

So our Aussie legend this week is Betty Cuthbert.

Betty Cuthbert.

Absolute legend.

What did she achieve, Martin? Well, multiple Olympic gold medals, 100 and 200 and relay across three Olympics.

Okay, now what about some of the other sports?

Betty Cuthbert.

Oh, Betty Cuthbert's there.

Okay, there you go.

Shirley

Strickland.

Shirley Strickland, okay.

All right, Betty Cuthbert.

Well done.

[laughs] Um, just wanna quickly say, we did, we, I know we talk about that event a lot, the, um, the best night of our lives, but at the actual event, um, we've talked about Betty Cuthbert, we've talked about all the, but we met Iolanda Ballas.

I think we met her somewhere else as well.

We've met her before, yeah.
