Better Oblivion Community Center

Collaboration can be tricky, but it can also lead to unexpected magic.

It reminds me of their music together in Better Oblivion Community Center.

They really found their groove.

And he does a lot of collaborating with like, you know, Phoebe Bridgers.

And he was in this band, the Better Oblivion Community Center.

And he's got these solo records that are just like outstanding.

And I'm, I'm somehow blanking on the name of his last album that came out a year or so ago.

I mean, I, that was not the only thing I disliked about it, but it, it felt like in every single song, like, it was just like, "Here's a list of reasons why you should feel bad for me.

Here's, like, here's everything that I'm going through." And it feels really passive and it feels really cowardly, and I think, like, on all three of Phoebe's records and on her work with Boy Genius and with Better Oblivion, you have moments where she is like, she's not really flattering herself, where she's kind of, like, showing herself in a self-destructive or just generally destructive light, and where, like, y- you know, I think that's part of where the emotional tension comes from is, like, it's, y- you know, she's kind of let go of that impulse to convince you that she's the good guy in any given scenario.

Also credited in the liner notes are Connor Oberst, who was a big influence on Phoebe, and they have been collaborators for years.

They have a side project together called the Better Community Oblivion Center, which I love.

I love that album.
