It's his directorial debut and it stars Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandvice, Richard de Manacor, Betsy Baker and Teresa Tilly.

It was made for a budget of $375,000 and grossed $29.4 million at the box office.

Upon release, the contemporary critical reception was largely positive.

During the scene where Ash is preparing to dismember Linda, he's actually using a real functioning chainsaw.

And you can kind of tell how uneasy the actress Betsy Baker is during that scene.

She does look a little nervous.

And as much as I feel for her, that's still kind of badass.

Someone needs to make a

movie and call it that.

The actress Betsy Baker, she was actually highly suspicious about being asked to star in a horror movie.

So in the beginning, she would only meet the producers in a public restaurant.

I mean, we liked it, but at the time, we didn't see what all the fuss was about.

And my friend was quite freaked out by all the demonic deadite faces and voices, especially in one scene with... playing cards i think at this point we had just seen eli roth's movie cabin fever which was a particularly fun viewing and we were laughing our asses off the whole time so i think because of that response we thought we'd get the same reaction with the evil dead because i think we were expecting more of a horror comedy with emphasis on comedy there are some funny moments in the first evil dead film and there are some nice little bits of cute light-heartedness like this scene where um Ash is, you know, giving this present to his girlfriend, Linda, played by Betsy Baker, and this, like, mirror necklace thing, which is seen throughout the franchise.

Well, seen through the first two films, I think.

I can't remember if it's seen in other movies, but anyway, it doesn't matter.
