Beth Mooney

Sorry, not up for grabs, but the next, the next player who's going to step into some roles.

And, you know, someone like Beth Mooney's been waiting for an opportunity with the gloves for a long time.

We've been, um, lucky to have two in the squad the whole time.

Um, but there's a lot of, a couple of wikis on that trip that are sticking their hand up wanting an opportunity for Australia.

Look at Trent Rockets.

Their overseas players were Beth Mooney, very much a batter and wicket keeper; Kim Garth, very much a bowler; Sam Bates, very much a bowler, and they went and won the tournament.

All-rounders in franchise cricket are valuable, but they aren't everything.

And isn't the talk of even allowing them to have a fifth overseas player to replace a fourth one if they get injured?

Who are your opening batters, then?

My opening batters are Sophia Dunkley of the Trent Rockets and Phoebe Litchfield of Sunrisers Leeds, two of the top run scorers throughout the tournament.

Coming in at three, I've got Beth Mooney of Trent Rockets, who is mainly in for her wicket keeping.

She took the most dismissals in the tournament with nine.

Um, and they were all working within a space within Cricket Australia, um, or in their state associations as coaches.

Um, but the year before, it was actually more females than males, and that was Meg Lanning, I think Beth Mooney was on it, and some current players who are still playing who are experimenting to see which way they may go after their careers.

So there's definitely opportunities, and Cricket Australia are promoting, um, opportunities to, to help players out in that transition.

As with most other aspects of the women's game, Cricket Australia are leading the way on bringing through past players into head coach roles.

If you thought dealing with Beth Mooney at Brisbane Heat was tough, what lies ahead of you will be very interesting.

And then they've sent home...

Okay, Imam-ul-Haq they sent home 'cause he's injured.

Um, that doesn't happen often.

Um, but I am genuinely coaching the player, whether it's, um, I've had the lu- I've been able to work with, with players like Beth Mooney, um, and, uh, Rita Ghosh was unbelievable and yeah, so I'm just extremely lucky at the minute and to be fair, nothing's really different.

It is purely, um, the personality and, um, yeah, the cricket.

It's great to see you doing it and thriving as well.

But again, that seems a little bit unsatisfactory in some ways.

um but i guess if you look around other international sides so australia you know beth mooney is a batter who keeps rather than a wiki keeper batter um and and i'm wondering whether what lottie's doing is thinking well we need alice capsey to be a bit more like beth mooney and a bit less like i don't know emily kerr you know a sort of an all-rounder who keeps rather than all-rounder who who bowls spin.

So yeah, it seems a funny time to be a wicketkeeper at the moment.

Yeah, it's a really odd one.
