Today, we're talking about a local business that has become a huge part of the mainline Philadelphia suburbs community, and that is Handel's Ice Cream in Berwyn.

21 years ago, Carmi and Buck Buchanan opened Handel's Homemade Ice Cream in Berwyn, a suburb of Philadelphia.

Since then, it's become a local favorite, but it's also become something bigger.

The Buchanan family has made community involvement and giving back a huge part of the business.

And Handles is a franchise that comes from Ohio, is that right?

Yes.

And was your parent, was your Handles the first, like, I remember, like, it was, it sounds so silly, but it was, like, such a sensation when it arrived in the middle of Berwyn, because we didn't really have an ice cream store, and it just became, like, it was the place that you would go, and you would run into everybody, and the parking lot was packed, and, but...

Where are you from, how many brothers and sisters, and where are you in the packing order? I am the youngest of two.

We grew up in Malvern and Berwyn, Pennsylvania.

Eight to 14, what were you doing? What were the four major things? Fishing and golf with my dad, and then football and backyard baseball.
