It was Sunday night.

I was sitting, uh, at the hotel, hanging out with Lincoln Challenger champion, Bernard Tomic.

The reason we were hanging out is because we were both on the plane the next day to go to Bloomfield Hills for that next event.

He lost in Cincinnati earlier.

He was even playing a chal- uh, like a 250 at one point and losing to Bernard Tomic.

Uh, he made a racket switch.

That, I mean, that's the worst, eh? Imagine that.

[laughs] Exactly.

Seeing Bernard Tomic barely play tennis anymore.

that he's had this beat, at least from a numbers perspective, is Dideri, 21st seed.

He copped Khachanov in the semifinal, who, as you like to kindly point out to me, Chris, was playing Challengers not that long ago, losing to Bernard Tomic.

Was it a Challenger or an ATP 250 event? He lost to Bernard Tomic.

It was 250.

It was a lost card loss.

And the thing, if you're on his team, that you like best, he's starting to get better as the business end of the tournament, so that's a good sign.

And Cilic K- Came into this tournament, zero confidence, losing four matches in a row, losing to the tank engine Bernie Tomic in Cabo, switching rackets right before the tournament.

So there was nothing on his resume.

Losing record on the year.
