In 1960, Tyner joined the Jazz Ted, led by Benny Golson, an art farmer, and recorded on the group's debut album, Meet the Jazz Ted.

Around the same time, Coltrane left Miles Davis' group and formed a quartet of his own.

But because he was friends with Golsan, he was reluctant to ask McCoy Tyner to leave.

Matter of fact, somebody who, uh, wound up eventually when Americans started coming.

Benny Golson used him, and he called him R- uh, European Paul Chambers.

I got in.

I got a small scholarship and a work-study job to mop the stage, and I was the youngest guy in the program.
