A BEMT was created in a Swiss lab.

It's also known as Tenosorb S and it's a broad spectrum UVA UVB filter.

It does not cover all of the UVA spectrum.

So part of the reason why we know that it's safe is from some of the information from Europe.

Is this new product, this new ingredient reef safe?

There were no significant toxicity was demonstrated with the BEMT when it was tested.

to get the FDA approval status.

Ultraviolet is turning a long-awaited regulatory breakthrough into a retail differentiator.

The Australian Suncare brand has launched their Unblock Screen SPF 50, which which it claims is the first sunscreen on the U.S. market formulated with BEMT or Bemotrizinol following the FDA's June 2026 addition of the UV filter to the U.S. sunscreen monograph.

I think we talked about this in a past beauty bulletin, but this is the first new sunscreen UV filter that was cleared by the FDA since 1999. ending a regulatory drought that has left U.S. formulators working with a much narrower filter toolbox than our counterparts in Europe, Australia, and Asia.

That's why so many people say that the Asian sunscreen is far superior to the U.S. because they just have so many more options of filters, whereas we just had a very limited amount.

The ingredient BEMT has been used internationally for years.

And the ingredients arrival gives U.S. formulators access to a highly photostable broad spectrum filter capable of protecting across both UVA and UVB wavelengths.

Ultraviolet is positioning BEMT less as an ingredient story than as a formulation unlock.

The brand says its global range has incorporated BMT for nearly a decade, allowing it to move quickly once the U.S. regulatory clearance arrived.

The first new active sunscreen ingredient has been approved in the United States in more than 25 years.

It's called bemotrizinol or BEMT.
