Bell, Book and Candle

The impact of the Burning Times reverberated around the world, influencing the Salem witch trials and other trials in North America, as well as witch hunts in other regions influenced by colonialism, including India, Nepal, Tanzania, Kenya, and Ghana.

It's no coincidence that there are countless movies and TV shows that portray women having to conceal or give up their identity as witches: Bewitched, So I Married a Witch, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Bell, Book and Candle, Practical Magic, The Witch, The Love Witch, and of course Halloween Town, it is common and there is historical precedence for witches to feel like they need to hide or be ashamed of their identity, and this is something called the witch wound.

[upbeat spooky music] Given the history of persecution of witches and women in general, there is something that shows up in Halloween Town and in many of us called the witch wound.

The witch wound is collective, intergenerational trauma experienced by many, often linked to the persecution of witches and other female healers throughout history.
