Bega

Most people would simply find the quickest road to Bega, but that is not what 5k yards on the road to Parkrunday with Billo is about.

This journey takes us up through Coriong, the heart of the Man from Snowy River country, before winding through the Snowy Mountains beneath Mount Kosciuszko and past the alpine waters of Jindabyne.

From there, the road drops dramatically over Brown Mountain and into the green pastures of the Bega Valley.

It is a landscape shaped by mountains, rivers, farming and generations of dairy families.

Bega is a town whose name has become known across Australia through its dairy heritage and premium cheese manufacturing.

But beyond the familiar name, on the packet is a regional community with its own history, character and stories.

And that is the reason for 5K Yards.

The barcode might get me to Park Run, but it is the road, the landscape and the people behind each destination that gives the journey its story.

So this is the AFAC seasonal outlook.

And in eastern Australia, it highlights increased areas of risk in Victoria and including part of the coast southwest of Geelong and quite a large swathe extending from west of Bairnsdale through East Gippsland and to north of Bega in New South Wales.

And other risk areas are in Tasmania in the northeast and east, although not including the Port Arthur and Hobart region, and also in the northeast of New South Wales from east of Dubbo, then extending up to Gundawindi in Queensland.

So elsewhere, you know, the southern two thirds of the Northern Territory have an increased risk and some parts of WA.
