I guess the other thing is the gas.

So there's a lot of gas development in the Beetaloo at the moment.

And also just off to the north of our tenure, we've got, there's the Glide gas discovery, which is a kept production well.

I think the region's promising to have a fair bit more development in the coming years.

Now, the WA state government has just come in over the top of that, blown all out of the way and said, no, it's going to be missile manufacturing.

In the Northern Territory, we face the possibility of frack gas from the Beetaloo Basin powering data centres plugged into Pine Gap or Tyndall Air Base.

The other really problematic consequence of this turn to militarise our economy is that it makes the job of the Palestinian solidarity movement so much harder for two reasons.

First, it makes the Australian government even more reluctant to contradict the Trump regime on anything.

But one of the ways we need to make this work is the people in regional Australia need to be connected to the real economy.

They have to have real jobs and they have to take those jobs when they are available, which is why I'm such a big supporter of things like the Beetaloo Basin in the Northern Territory, because if you want jobs for people in regional Australia, then one of the ways of getting them is to do mining.

and to have to turn off the cancer of welfare, not just in these communities, but every Australian community.

That's a huge issue.

The Northern Territory has enough gas to supply the whole of Australia for the next 200 years

Absolutely, and it's coming out of the Beetaloo as we speak.

The problem with that is that we need it to get to the rest of the country Joining me now is esteemed geologist, author, and executive director at Hancock Energy, Professor Ian Plimer.

Ian, does the NT have enough gas to supply the whole country for decades, perhaps centuries?

Well, it does, and in Australia, we have thousands of years of gas sitting not only in the Beetaloo, but sitting in the Bowen Basin, sitting in the Surat Basin, sitting in the, um, Otway Basin of Victoria, sitting in the, uh, Gippsland Basin of Victoria, sitting in the Perth Basin.

Today, Tuvalu's Climate Change Minister, Dr. Talia, and Canadian Senator Rosa Galvez are here asking for stronger global action.

Yet last week, the Prime Minister pledged in Palau to work with our Pacific family on climate action whilst his resources minister celebrated the expansion of fossil fuels with the Beetaloo Basin.

How can Australians in the Pacific trust this government's commitment when it continues to support and expand fossil fuels?

In July, the NT's Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Gerard Mailey, promoted a plan by Beetaloo Digital to build a $40 billion data centre south of Durban.

This is a classic example of how the territory gas industry, particularly the Beetaloo, is going to enable jobs and enable investment here in the Northern Territory.

The Territory Government has granted Beetaloo Digital exclusive access to 185 hectares of government land and endorsed the company's proposal to power it with gas from its parent company, Beetaloo Energy.

This is a great opportunity to show the Territory is open for business on the back of the gas industry here in the Northern Territory.

Mr Maley didn't let the public know that his sister-in-law, Bethany Maley, works for Beetaloo Digital in strategic engagement.

The Territory's Disclosure Act doesn't require Mr Maley to publicly disclose the link, but the NT's Ministerial Code of Conduct says that ministers must declare any conflicts between their personal interests and public duties, including conflicts involving their close family members.

Yes, the mission's impossible, and it is our mission, and we do accept it, to every week look at the madness of net zero and so much madness out there.

What was fascinating, James and Rita, was this story about the Beetaloo Basin, which we've talked about before, how the Greens are desperate to stop any activity there, and yet the local Indigenous families and gangs, crews, whatever, want the work.

They want the work.

They want to get busy.

I mean, that's just a fact.

Pipeline operator APA Group's proposed gas pipeline from the Beetaloo Basin in the NT to the east coast of Australia has been declared a coordinated project by the Queensland Government.

The 1600 kilometre pipeline would connect the Beetaloo to APA's existing South West Queensland pipeline, which would allow gas from the NT to be sent to LNG export terminals at Gladstone, but also cities like Brisbane and Sydney.

The project's currently in the planning and approval stages.
