But this, I'll tell you what's mind-blowing about this, and I've done stories, um, for news on, uh, people trying to exploit this, uh, persecution claim that they are Bedoons, which is a kind of like exiled state of Kuwait, and gaming the system by falsely claiming they have that nationality in order to get into the country and then seek asylum, and even though the home office knows about the loophole, it won't close it down.

Then we've got other examples that we've written about, smuggling gangs running rings around the authorities by giving people scripts to adhere to when they're questioned by border force-

A lot of stateless people live in countries that don't report statelessness figures at all or in situations where their status is never formally recorded.

The Bedoon in Kuwait are a good example.

Estimates put them at over 100,000, but they don't show up in official statelessness counts because Kuwait doesn't recognize them as stateless.

It considers them illegal residents or nationals of other countries who've hidden their real identity.
