Becky Rom

People were trying to keep roads and dams and logging out of this place back in the early 1900s when they still just called it the Canoe Country.

It began with a conservationist named Sigurd Olson, passed to a young man he took under his wing, and then to that man's daughter, Becky Rom.

She has been at it for well over half a century, and she came to it the way some people come to a family trade.

This year, 2026, is the 75th anniversary of my first canoe trip into the Boundary Waters.
