... what, the context that was missing was, you know, BeaverMart is inside of Beavercreek, Ohio, where the city's logo is a beaver and the local high school mascot's a beaver, and the Beaver bowling alley and the Beaver pizza.

Um, and that was it.

So apparently, according to, uh, the mayor of Huber Heights, which is, like, the town right next to Beavercreek that actually has the Buc-ee's in it, according to that mayor, he had a phone call with Arch Aplin, the owner of Buc-ee's, and I believe Arch told him that, "You know, our side of the story is BeaverMart applied for a federal trademark for BeaverMart, and applying for a federal trademark implies that they're gonna try expanding BeaverMart nationally."

Mm-hmm.

Bucky's has pursued several trademark disputes, The Bourne United case is one of several trademark disputes the company has pursued as the company continues expanding beyond its Texas roots.

More recently, Bucky's sued Beaver's Mini Mart, a family-owned convenience store in Beaver Creek, Ohio.

According to the federal complaint, Bucky's alleged that the store's smiling Beaver logo name and red-letter branding are similar enough to its trademark to create consumer confusion.

The Ohio business has denied intentionally copying Bucky's branding.

Uh, I started with, uh, helping United Way, then Kiwanis, but eventually, I, it, uh, it touched my heart when I decided I want to, uh, invest in the future leaders of our country.

So the last couple years has been predominantly to help Junior ROTC cadets from local, uh, participating, uh, high schools like, um, uh, Beavercreek, uh, Bellbrook, and Fairborn.

And many people ask me, say, "Why, why are you doing this?" So the story goes like this.

I was very gung-ho, and I wanted to do, uh, Junior ROTC when I was in high school in, in Puerto Rico, and it was typically Navy or Army back then.

Absolutely

... or, or any kind of engineers.

As a matter of fact, the number one cadet at the Beavercreek High School here last year, um, a little, uh, young, uh, bright girl from Venezuela, she ended up getting accepted to a couple of medical schools.

I mean, that's enlightening.

Well, they're beavers being stolen, I think.

Beaver Creek, Ohio was targeted over its cartoon beaver logo and a federal trademark firing.
