I was 12, but it's a story I want to share because it's something that I've never forgotten.

So when I was 12, a little postcard came in our mailbox for a beauty pageant to join a beauty pageant that was coming to Michigan called Little Miss of America.

And, you know, in hindsight, they probably put these in any 12 year old's mailbox, but I thought it was really special that it came into my mailbox.

And so I asked my mom, could I do this? I wanted to do this.

So she did my pictures, and we started getting prepared.

I got a gown and all of that.

But I needed an entry fee for this beauty pageant.

I think it was $500.

It's different.

Pageantry is different because you're not doing that, right? So any questions, let me know.

Also, uh, the beauty contest finalists, Angelique, they all sent their dolls off by now, and they'll be getting ready to display them and exhibit them early in October.

Exactly.

So we kind of didn't talk about it last episode because the tarot episode just was so in depth and fun to do.

Me and Bob are doing hand signs that we can't talk about yet because it's a spoiler.

There was nothing bogus about the first annual Beautiful People Beauty Pageant.

I think that Velvet just said like a swear word because they just blurred her mouth.

They sure did.

Sigma Bar S earned first place in the commercial division while the Pennington family took first in the antique vehicle category.

Elk City Middle School Cheerleaders won the School and School Organizations Division, and Ashton Cockrell, Cheyenne Arapahoe Old Settlers Queen, took first place in the Beauty Pageant Category.

Kerosene Cowgirls earned top honors in the Riding Club Division.

Elk City Carnegie Library, with its Hooked on Books entry, won the Clubs and Organizations Category, while Christ Lutheran Church took first place to honor among churches.

Mm-hmm.

Now, don't you wanna know the celebrities who got their start doing beauty pageants?

Sure.

The beauty business is big business.

Beauty queens are not born, they're made.

And India has made more than anyone else.

But for a country like India, because it's a very new feeling to have winners, a new feeling of pride in our women, it's still big.

It's not a fairy tale.

It's meant to be true.

So in the real world of beauty queens, what does it take to win? Today is the last day of training.

The transformation from pretty girl to potential beauty queen almost complete.

Let me tell, just to talk about how pretty she was on the outside.

When she went to one school, she won the, you know, Miss whatever the school was, Beauty Pageant.

And then her family moved, and she went to another school, and she won the Miss Beauty Pageant for that school, too.

It was the first time in that county's history that someone won, you know, both the beauty pageants.

It really hadn't hit me.
