Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a residential property in the village of Bolivar at around 7 o'clock yesterday morning.

A man in his 20s sustained serious injuries in what Gardaí have described as a serious assault.

He was taken to regional hospital Mullingar for treatment and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Gardaí say a man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the investigation.

He's being held for questioning at a Gardaí station in County Meath.

Well, Sarah Garthy were alerted to an incident in Bolivar at around 7 o'clock yesterday morning and when emergency services arrived at the property, which is located in the centre of the village, they found a man in his 20s who had sustained serious injuries following what's believed to have been an assault.

He was brought first to hospital in Mullingar for treatment and then later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

And you can stay in this center and they support you 100% and it's amazing it's just the most amazing and beautiful facilities and I've met so many families in there who are struggling and who have it a lot harder than I had it you know to be honest about it you know and their stories would knock you off your socks like you know how strong these people are so like you know I just couldn't say enough about them.
