Beau Bayh

Politician

Oct 8, 2026

Laura Merrifield WilsonMODERATOR
30:24
Mr. Bayh
30:25
We have one of the lowest voter participation rates in the country, and we have to improve that.
30:29
Our state is at its best when there are more voices participating in our democracy, and we need bold legislatives ac- uh, legislative action to fix this.
30:37
First, we have to end straight ticket voting.
30:40
There's a lot of reasons why people don't vote, but chief among them, people do not participate because they feel like their vote doesn't matter.
30:46
I hear that all the time.
30:47
Well, there's some reasons for that.

7 MINS LATER

Laura Merrifield WilsonMODERATOR
38:17
Mr. Engling.
3:42
What Greg Bell had to do with all the signatures, do you think that's going to be changed to get more independent fourth party people on the ballot for future elections?
3:50
I do.
3:50
I think it's a problem in our politics that we are essentially siloed into a two-choice system.
3:56
More competition is a good thing.
3:58
I practice antitrust law.
3:59
I know you're a lawyer, Abdul.
4:01
Maybe you've had a little bit of antitrust practice.
6:02
Your thoughts on the non-citizens voting? That seemed to take up quite a bit of time in the debate tonight.
13:23
so my first
13:23
priority in seeking this office is to root out some of the wasteful spending and insider dealing that we've seen.
13:28
And like I said, I believe in bipartisanship.
13:32
I think we ought to work with each other and not get so wound up into partisan labels.
13:37
So take his political party completely out of it.
13:38
The current Secretary of State has done some things with the taxpayer resources that, in my opinion, are unacceptable.
13:43
Luxury SUVs that we paid for, hiring of relatives, world travel that's gone unexplained, no bid contracts to his largest donor.

7 MINS LATER

21:14
I mean, I have that conversation with people.
43:25
If he does indeed decide to send troops to Indiana, how, how do you think officials, including the secretary of state, should respond? How would you respond a- as a candidate?
43:33
candidate?Well look, federal law is very clear on this issue.
43:38
Regardless of what the president may say, sending troops to be stationed outside of polling places, sending federal agents to intimidate voters is blatantly a violation of federal law.
43:49
So that's why it is extremely important that we all speak up against that type of, uh, just abject voter intimidation where we see it.
43:57
If he try- attempts to do that in my state, I will be using my voice among with many other like-minded individuals here to call it out and prevent it from happening through the courts by litigating against it.
44:06
But we need to take a proactive view as well and elect someone, uh, to this office who's gonna not let that happen in the first place.
44:13
Uh, there's no room for that in my state or any other state.
44:21
We started our conversation on it, but what, what do you think right now is the biggest threat to Indiana's election system and, and what would you aim to tackle first?
4:38
30 years old, a lawyer, Marine, Harvard Law, um, and you're now, uh, running for off- let, let people know a little bit about, about yourself and, you know, why you've decided to, to step into this race.
4:51
Yeah.
4:51
I'm seventh generation in my family born here in the state of Indiana, and as you hinted at the top, I hinted to at the top, I was kinda raised in a family of public servants.
5:00
Um, you know, my granddad served our state in the United States Senate, and one of the things that I was most proud of in his service was he authored a law called Title IX, which has allowed millions and millions of girl, young girls all over our country to compete fairly in college athletics.
5:12
So every time I see someone like Caitlin Clark here on the Fever, Sophie Cunningham, who's just an amazing superstar woman athlete, I think about him and the millions of girls that are inspired to achieve things through college sports.
5:23
You know, he authored a constitutional amendment to lower the voting age from 21 to 18 at a time in our country when the Vietnam War was raging, and young people were fighting and dying in a war in Vietnam.
5:33
They didn't have a right, uh, to vote on whether that war continued.
10:14
Before we go, Bo, where can people learn more about your campaign? And any final message to our seven million subscribers about you and about your campaign and about this race?
