I spoke to our colleagues down at BBC Solent who do Bournemouth and they were saying, I know, just beating three European champions, you know, in Milan, Man U, Villa.
Adam PopeHOST

And I said, well, and Leeds.
Adam PopeHOST

Owynn Palmer-AtkinGUEST
23:27
I spoke to a couple of people that had interviewed him before and had worked with him before, like at BBC Solent and places like that.
Owynn Palmer-AtkinGUEST

And they said that he was a really nice guy.
Owynn Palmer-AtkinGUEST
23:35
And to be honest, I've had nothing but good things really to say about Russell personally and has been generous with his time.

Greg MasdingPANELIST

First ever interviewee for the Cherries Chat podcast, Chris Temple, the voice of AFC Bournemouth to many, to me especially when I was growing up over on BBC Radio Solent, commentating with Willow, just bringing so much joy to our lives as a commentator.
Greg MasdingPANELIST
27:51
And he was there for the rise of this fantastic football club.
Greg MasdingPANELIST
27:55
And it was a great chat.
Jack HillmanHOST

Greg MasdingHOST

knowing chris voice and just i was i couldn't wait for afc bournemouth to upload any highlights with chris's voice onto youtube or afc btv or whatever just because it almost it always felt better to me to have chris's voice rather than the the sky voice or the premier league productions voice same here personally um so yeah to have chris as our first guest it it feels like a 360 moment i don't know if that's the right word but

it was I actually was at university at the time I went to university in Winchester and I started I'd started doing a few Saturday reports and things actually for BBC what is now BBC Surrey um because I worked at the University of Surrey at the time not as a lecturer then um just in sports administration and um And got talking to them and got a couple of chances to go and do a couple of reports for them for all the Charlton people.
Kris TempleGUEST
3:13
And then got into Solent and started doing a couple of reports for them because I was based down this way.
Kris TempleGUEST

And yeah, I got a call on a Friday afternoon saying our commentator for Bournemouth tomorrow has gone sick.
Rosie RussellHOST
8:41
Yeah, it's been good.
Rosie RussellHOST
8:43
I actually went out and did a outside broadcast for BBC Radio Solent.
Rosie RussellHOST
8:48
So it's the first time I've done an outside broadcast for them, which was so much fun, but it's not as glamorous as it may sound.
Rosie RussellHOST
8:56
We went down, we, well, I got up at four o'clock that morning because we had to get down to Poole Harbour, because it was the final crossing of a ferry called the Barfleur from Poole, down by me, over to France.

I even watched, and sorry for people who don't like football, but I was watching Southampton West Ham yesterday, and you have the option of either having...
PeteHOST
0:56
the Southampton West Ham game with Saints commentary, as in Radio Solent, or you could have West Ham commentary as well.
PeteHOST
1:03
It was so good.
PeteHOST

Bournemouth are now a proudly established top-flight side and they're making their debut season in Europe, looking to topple one of European football's giants.
Mani ThangaduraiHOST

According to Joe Partington, who is now BBC Radio Solent's regular cherry summariser, and of course a former academy graduate and midfielder, we used to train on the park over from the stadium.
Mani ThangaduraiHOST
6:13
Now fans walk through the park to watch European games.
Mani ThangaduraiHOST

Back then we had to get changed in one part of Bournemouth and then drive somewhere else to train before driving somewhere else for lunch.
Lucas YeomansHOST

Actually, from what was a pretty dull game, best bit at the end, there was a little bit of choice words, a bit of ag between the two managers, Cesar Pichotto and John Messina.
Lucas YeomansHOST
22:59
After the game, he spoke to BBC Radio Solent and spoke to Andrew Moon, who's the Portsmouth commentator, and said... about the interaction.
Lucas YeomansHOST
23:09
We shook hands at the end of the game.
Lucas YeomansHOST
23:11
As we walked off, he kindly told me, I talk too much.
SeanHOST
6:22
I don't know if he's put it back on or not.
SeanHOST
6:24
I mean, even the BBC Solent Twitter put out that quote saying, don't doubt me.
SeanHOST
6:29
That was it.
SeanHOST
6:30
We doubted him.

13 MINS LATER

ChrisHOST

But see, Pompey have a really good record at Carrow Road.
ChrisHOST
20:02
I think the last time they beat us was 2003.
SeanHOST
20:04
Yeah, again, Whitley was saying that on Solent.
SeanHOST
20:07
And, you know, that's a good omen, but that means nothing to Portsmouth.
