Baxley

So, but you started your life in Southern Georgia.

Baxley?

Baxley, Georgia.

Yeah.

I'm a little bitty town in Southeast Georgia.

But there's onions.

Yeah, there's onions.

How big is Baxley?

GPB's Orlando Montoya has more.

The utility on Monday filed documents with the Georgia Public Service Commission outlining plans for upgrades at Plant Hatch near Baxley.

The tech giant will purchase the electricity generated by the improvements there and at Plant Vogel near Augusta.

The added electricity from the upgrades would equate to about 1% of Georgia Power's massive generation expansion green-lit by the PSC last year to help power data centers across Georgia.

WABE's Emily Jones has more.

Georgia Power wants to upgrade four older nuclear reactors at Plant Vogel near Augusta and Plant Hatch, which is near Baxley, so they produce more energy.

The work at Vogel was approved by state regulators last year, but the specifics of how to pay for it weren't hashed out.

Now the utility is asking for permission from the Public Service Commission to move forward with upgrades at Plant Hatch, too.
