nice so pretty recent so you mentioned that it's three to five years so what what was it that brought you to the hubby what what was it that made you want to dive in So oddly
HeathGUEST
5:08
enough, when I was in high school decades ago, I loved Battletech and we had those little, we had the standees because you couldn't get the metal miniatures, which probably were lead at the time, you know? And then one day I was walking through a Barnes and Noble and I saw the box and I was like, oh my gosh, those are plastic miniatures.
HeathGUEST
5:26
I can actually paint those again.
HeathGUEST
5:28
So before I took the dive into that, I actually went back took craft paint, like heavy acrylic paint, and took out a horrified box set and all those little monster miniatures that came in the board game.
Dan AdamsHOST
6:45
And how did you get onto those paints? Was it trial and error or were you kind of YouTubing? Like, how did you find them?
HeathGUEST
6:51
So I started with the Vallejo paints because really that's what was by me at the store to get.
HeathGUEST
6:57
And then when I started to go out there and game with some of the Battletech guys, they started talking about how they enjoyed using Monument and this hobby.
HeathGUEST
7:05
So then I picked up one or two bottles and that's how I started doing it.
DavidHOST
21:08
the way you need to bother buying miniatures.
Ivan SorensenHOST
21:11
It always reminds me, like, because when we played Battletech, like, nobody painted those dudes.
Ivan SorensenHOST
21:16
The couple of people who did paint one, like, didn't play with that many.
Ivan SorensenHOST
21:19
So, like, for Battletech, it was assumed you played unpainted plastic.
Ivan SorensenHOST
21:23
But it would never have flown in, like, 40k at the time.
Ivan SorensenHOST
21:26
So sometimes it's just like the concept, but, but it's also like, if you like pony up for like the new 40 K box and you split it with your brother or your friend, then you just rattle can them and call it good.
Ivan SorensenHOST
22:57
Because, yeah, you can just use whatever guys you want.
Ivan SorensenHOST
22:59
But if you really, like, go into it, then I guess it does become a hot take.
IbrahimHOST
12:39
Things don't have a specific weapon skill, or the stats are just movement.
IbrahimHOST
12:44
So it's like 2d6, a bit like Battletech.
IbrahimHOST
12:47
where you're aiming to hold more than six.
IbrahimHOST
12:50
You need anywhere between seven and 11, and 12 is a crud.
JoeHOST
71:31
Okay, but do you read for fun?
JoeHOST
71:35
I have played Battletech.
JoeHOST
71:38
Yeah, but you didn't answer my question.
JoeHOST
71:40
You read for fun.
Mike AshquieHOST
2:14
This is Guelph Community Radio, but more importantly, this is the Spellbook.
Mike AshquieHOST
2:20
This is the tabletop role-playing game show that is dedicated to the hobby of rolling them bones, whether you are marching across the battlefields of the inner sphere in a game like BattleTech, or perhaps you're involved in some political intrigue and trying to find how to satiate the inner beast in Vampire: The Masquerade, or maybe you are patrolling Hell's Kitchen with Daredevil in Marvel's multi-universal role-playing game, or maybe you're playing Dungeons & Dragons.
Mike AshquieHOST
2:51
We're here for you.
Mike AshquieHOST
2:52
My name is Mike "The Birdman" Ashcuoy.
Mike WhittakerHOST
5:17
You have been a busy man.
Bryan YoungGUEST
5:19
I tend to like staying busy, and what better way to stay busy than in the Battletech universe?
Mike WhittakerHOST
5:25
So my set of notes here has five shorts, three novellas with a fourth coming out, something for the Battletech Gothic Collection, and a full-length novel.
Mike WhittakerHOST
5:36
Have I missed anything? You
Bryan YoungGUEST
5:38
know, maybe? I don't know.
Bryan YoungGUEST
6:15
It was bizarre, especially since I didn't really know what I was working with, and especially since I thought I was only doing one story.
Bryan YoungGUEST
6:23
Gothic was something that I'd known about for a long time, When we had our first, when I went to my first Kerensky con, which was sort of the sort of very, you know, private-ish con for the big Kickstarter backers for the Mercenaries Kickstarter, Randall Bills had sort of pulled people into a room.
Bryan YoungGUEST
6:45
a few at a time maybe three years ago or so and showed everyone sort of the art for Battletech Gothic and this was sort of the first I'd heard about it and he pulled Mike Stackpole and I back into this room and as part of these because Mike and I were sort of two of the guests that they brought for this con and our our minds kind of went spinning trying to figure out like wow what are they are they really doing this and we sort of
AdamHOST
48:21
Right.
AdamHOST
48:21
No, like, that's the thing that I'm not a fan of with, like, say, Battletech and stuff like that.
AdamHOST
48:26
And, you know, when we play stuff in the Battletech universe, we play... first strike uh and sorry alpha strike we play alpha strike and alpha strike is you can play it on a you know a hex map if you want to but you generally don't have to but you don't have to do anything honestly you can play regular battle tech on not a hex map but pretty much everybody seems to but i i feel like the people who are like more interested in something like alpha strike are like yeah let's just play this normal like it's a regular miniature game and not a hex game And I feel like the people that mostly like to play regular battle tech generally would be also very happy playing a hex game like ASL and other stuff like that.
AdamHOST
49:11
And I'm not as interested in doing that.
AdamHOST
49:13
So, but you're right.

Tau.
Mike AshquieHOST
33:12
This isn't Marvel 616.
Mike AshquieHOST
33:14
This isn't Battletech.
Mike AshquieHOST
33:15
This isn't Vampire the Masquerade.
Mike AshquieHOST
33:17
