Yeah.

You know what I keep thinking of with Bathymus is the, in Bioshock, the Bathysphere.

Yeah, I thought about that too.

Which, I mean, obviously comes from the same root, but it's a cool word.

I intend to ask a

few questions as to who is going to replace my multi-depth submarine in Battersea.

Well, greetings everybody and welcome back to our journey through the old time radio Superman show of the 1940s.

Today we get into part 10 of Professor Thorpe's Bathysphere.

Last we saw...

Superman was trying to get Maddox help before he succumbs to his injuries.

And Jimmy Olsen and Bill Wentworth are trapped in a burning motel.

Let's see what happens, everybody.

Now an episode of Arch Obler's Plays, rebranded Lights Out for a early 1960s release of a program that was first heard on November 18th, 1939. on the NBC Blue Network, called Bathysphere.

On most of Obler's programs, which he wrote, he was heard as host in some capacity, and in this next broadcast, you'll hear an older Obler setting up his story from about 25 years previous.

It's Lights Out.

Let's take the submarine down.

The Bathysphere.

Oh, right.

I'm not gonna remember any of the specific names.

He looks up the lighthouse, and it's a bizarre architecture.

He finds the stairs and climbs up them.

He enters into the Bathysphere station, which is described in the script as a beautiful art deco dreamland, sweeping walls, lush carpet, geometric lighting sconces, golden statuary of sleek and a fascinating idealized figures.

Jack proceeds down the elegant curvy stairways and stops when he sees a banner that reads, "No gods or kings, only man." We continue down the stairs, finds a Bathysphere, and after assessing that it's safe, he steps in.

Men have gone down to the depths of the sea before.

William Beebe in his bathysphere, you remember of course.

Comes from bathos, depth.
