Bathurst Street

Like when I went and did the interview, the, the place that it was at, it was the, the center for social innovation.

It's a coworking space in Toronto on Bathurst street.

Um, and I walked in, I'm like, where do I recognize this building from? And we had almost set up Toronto new school in that exact same building four years before.

Um, um, but it was just too big and would require too much work.

Toronto, I need some food spots with the eyes emoji.

And right away, I thought about a place I went to the other day, Patois on Dundas Street, just west of Bathurst.

it's um jamaican and asian fusion it is unbelievable shout out to the chef there just some of the best food it's rich it's delicious some of the best food i've had in the city of toronto so you got to check that out if you haven't i know i'm i'm late to this party like i know it's been one of those top places um for a while but they did they did shut down for a little bit now they're back and it's uh it's a spot it's on it's on the roster um it's on the list okay Oh, one other thing I want to say about Malachi Smith, he's increased his three-point percentage every year in college, all right? It was 22, and then it was 38, and then it was 41, and then it was 50, okay? Those are the types of things that scouts look for, right? Not guys that one year shot well, and the next year kind of didn't shoot it great, and then bounced back, had a decent year.

You know, you want to see progression.

Yeah, and Larissa Waller, it's true.

I go up Bathurst Street some days on a Saturday, and there is a hired guard and often a police officer in front of every single synagogue.

I drive down Bathurst Monday to Friday every single morning because I drive my son to school on my way to work.

And every single morning, the devout Jews are walking to Shul and there's a cop in front of just about every Jewish building we're passing, right? And I drive by one big Jewish day school where children go.

That got rejected, so they offered him a piece of property further to the west.

just to the east side of Bathurst.

So Bathurst and Fleet Street.

And so that was accepted.

The stadium was built in seven months and was state of the art when it opened for the 1926 season and was widely regarded as the best stadium outside of big league baseball.

The fence posts cut through the lawn and the landscaping, and while many Jewish buildings now have fences and gates, for Beth Tzedek, it certainly changes the look and feel of a building that's been a landmark along Bathurst Street for more than seven decades.

Rabbi Wernick laments the normalization of these measures for Jewish people who just want to enter their houses of worship.

He joins us now from the synagogue to explain how feeling safe and being safe are different.

There's a thing called Toronto Film Festival.

I'm like, I've never even been past Bathurst Street Okay, I go down to the Elgin Theater.

I have my old Hasselblad.

I put black and white film.

So I had a grandmother and a grandfather and I had a bubby and Zadie.

So anyone that knows Toronto knows that Bathurst is the main, you know, youth central.

And 3636 Bathurst was a brand new building at the time.

My bubby and two of her adult children lived there.

They were one of the first people that lived there.

I was 10 years old.

I was bored out of my mind.

So I went out onto the balcony and I looked over down onto Bathurst Street and something changed.

Later this month, we will pause to remember the terrorist attack in the United States that happened 25 years ago.

The U.S. Consulate General Toronto is commemorating the anniversary of September 11, 2001, with a special art exhibit near Bathurst and Bloor, and it opens tonight.

CTV's Beth McDonnell is there and joins us live with more.

We worked with the 9-11 Memorial and Museum in New York to borrow 10 of the pieces of Johns that they have in their permanent collection and have those shipped up to Toronto.

So we're very honored to be doing this as a way to remember the victims, the survivors, the heroic first responders from 9-11, but also to really recognize the friendship between the United States and Canada.

The exhibit is at 918 Bathurst Street and runs until September 12th.

When I bumped into a guy who was buying industrial quantities of garlic at the late night grocery store that's across the street from my place, made a joke about it.

Turns out he runs this little window over on Bathurst Street that just sells gnocchi.
