That is exactly it, Brian, because I think I was running through, running scared through my head.

This feels more like the old Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, you know, Road to Morocco, Road to, you know, Road to Bataan, whatever it is.

And those movies were, yeah, they were exactly the same.

And it's easier to have, I mean, it's debatable in the world of entertainment, but I think it's easier to have a back and forth when people are evenly matched than it is to be so unevenly matched.

We drove through poor districts, which were poor even before the shells hit them, along modern boulevards, past the shattered and gaping legislative and agriculture buildings, the fire-blackened post office, the crumbled Elks Club, past the monument of the Philippine hero, Jose Rizal, who was executed by Spaniards 50 years ago for his patriotism.

Out in the bay, beyond view, was Corregidor, and just north of that, Bataan.

The blood of many an American and Filipino had been given in these places in the name of the freedom and democracy of the islands.

The war against a common enemy had been won, but the country was unhappy.

I've got shelves over here, literally, of you know, stories of Bataan, Corregidor, what it was like in that early part.

But no, I'd love to at some point do a whole War in the Philippines book.

A year ago next Sunday, on April 4th, 1942, the Japanese bombed Base Hospital No. 1 on Bataan.

On that day, the fate of Bataan was sealed.

And on that day, when zero dive bombers made a target of a bright red cross, we began to realize what kind of an enemy we faced.

What kind of a war we must fight.

Lest we forget, next week at this same time, we commemorate the bombing of base hospital number one.

When the man behind the gun will be a woman.

An army nurse on Bataan.

The 16th had been part of the initial landings on Luzon back in December 1941.

It had been part of the advance on Manila and had fought at Bataan.

But that was a long time ago.

In 1944, the veterans of those battles were gone, transferred to other units.

And with this lovely and talented trio, we have Paramount's new discovery, Sunny Tufts, who became an overnight sensation in this picture.

Among all the stories of human heroism, none will be remembered longer than the saga of Bataan and Corregidor.

The heroes of that time were called expendable, women as well as men.

And so proudly we hail as the drama of those women, the army nurses.

Last night at 11 p.m., after a week of unceasing attack, the island fortress of Corregidor was surrendered to the Japanese.

Out of the black sorrow and tragedy of defeat, there came a light, the light of a miracle.

This is the story of that miracle, of eight American girls, army nurses, who were delivered from the flames of Bataan.

from the roaring hell that was Corregidor.

The first recipient of the Medal of Honor in World War II was Fort Lauderdale's beloved son, First Lieutenant Alexander R. Sandy Nininger.

He died fighting alongside Filipinos on the Bataan Peninsula in January of 1942.

And the Filipinos, you can have no better friend.
