Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls

If any of you have ever been to Rome, you might have visited this church.

St. Mary Major is one of the four major basilicas of Rome, along with St. Peter's Basilica, Saint John Lateran and Saint Paul Outside the Walls.

And it's called Saint Mary Major because it's the greatest and most important church in Rome dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

It also happens to be the oldest church in the West ever dedicated to Mary.

And what's interesting about it, it's going to rock your world.

At the four papal basilicas, St. Peter's, Basilica of the Vatican, St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Wall, and St. Mary Major's, All four of the high altars, the papal altars, because they're built on confessios and not oriented towards a tabernacle like we have in parishes, because they're built on confessios, confessios are underground, dug-in areas where you put relics, where people can go down and visit.

The high papal altars face the nave.

They face the people.

Yeah.

Was St. Paul outside the walls.

Just the coloration, number one.

I love the gold that it uses.

I thought that was really cool.

Yeah, that's interesting.

I also loved St. Paul Outside the Walls.

That was kind of an add-on to our tour because someone was like, I really wanted to see St. Paul, so he added it on.
