Basil Hawkins

Happens.

Basil Hawkins leaves.

I'm tempted to add that as...

Oh, sorry.

there's no way Sanji's going to catch up at this point.

No.

Basil Hawkins leaves.

Feel pretty good about that.

I just think that'd be a really cool deck.

And then the other leader is, uh, Basil Hawkins.

I know.

No one thought I'd bring the Basil Hawkins down.

And I was thinking about this for a while.

So his devil fruit ability is Destroy Straw Fruit, and obviously he sits there looking at all the tarot cards doing his premonition.

We got the potentially red-yellow aggro Kuma, the blue-black control Kuma.

We got the trash revival X-Drake.

The group decides to search for him, and Shaki warns them that there are 11 rookie pirates with over 100 billion berry bounties on them that have reached the Red Line.

These have been dubbed the Supernovas and include the mafia-type pirate Capone Gang Bege, the Big Eater Jewelry Bonney, the Magician Basil Hawkins, Eustace Captain Kid, the Roar of the Sea Scratchmen Apoo, the Mad Monk Urouge, the Masked Massacre Soldier Killer, the former Marine Red Flag X Drake, and the Surgeon of Death Trafalgar Law, in addition to Luffy and Zoro.

So here we get the introduction-

I think we really care about, like, two of these

And you're just kind of like.

Dude, I remember when Basil Hawkins came out to counter Lucci, and I was like, this might be the greatest card of all time.

It can't be popped.

What? Yeah, and still, like, Greed Body just got, like, absolutely rolled over by Lucci.

Both of them collapse at the end of the fight, which is the scenario's clearest case of a mutual costly win.

Zoro and Luffy do have an early encounter with Basil Hawkins in Wano's Kuri region, and Hawkins has the Wara Wara no Mi, which redirects incoming damage to straw dolls connected to other people.

But that encounter needs to be addressed honestly because Komachiyo runs in and carries both Zoro and Luffy away to deal with Tama's fever emergency.

The fight is explicitly interrupted and left unresolved, which means under the scenario's rules, no absorption occurs.

The decisive final defeat of Hawkins is later delivered by Killer during the Onigashima raid, where Killer exploits the fact that Kid has no left arm to sever Hawkins' left arm, removes Kid's straw doll from the severed limb, and finishes Hawkins with one final attack.

Zoro is not involved in that fight at all, so the Wara Wara no Mi stays with Hawkins throughout.

And when Killer defeats him, it follows the standard canon path rather than any absorption mechanic, since that mechanic belongs to Zoro alone.

Scratchmen Apoo has the Oto Oto no Mi, which transforms his body into musical instruments and weaponizes sound as cutting attacks.

He's the only other exception to the rule that these are all captains as supernovas.

We also have Jewelry Bonnie, Carporn Veggie, Basil Hawkins, Scratch Man Apu, X-Drake and Yuruj.

Which I hope I've pronounced right.

He's one of those characters that you don't see as much of him as you kind of want to see.

So, like we said, we have Jewelry Bonnie of the Bonnie Pirates.

Capone Beji of the Fire Tank Pirates.

Basil Hawkins of the Hawkins Pirates.

Scratch Man Apu of the On Air Pirates.

Instead, he dreamed of becoming a marine, a dream that would come true while he grew up to be a member of SWORD, the secret marine organization.

Basil Hawkins, God rest his soul, got his practice as a tarot card reader very early on as well, it seems.

And Scratchmen Apoo got in plenty of piano lessons before his teeth became an actual keyboard.

Taking a detour from the Supernovas, though, we have our very own cyborg, Franky.
