Basil Brush

As a kid, I had no problem with Pinky and Perky.

But my favorite was a character called Basil Brush.

And he

always had a human next to him.

I went to see her pantomime.

She upstaged Basil Brush.

Strictly essentially gave her another five years of celebrity, and she did like being in the sort of eye of the general public.

She loved all the acclaim that she had from it.

Mr. Johnny.

I always hate it when they call me Mr. Johnny because the only person who famously was called Mr. Johnny was the guy with his hand up Basil Brush.

Oh, yeah.

Very good, Mr. Johnny.

There were a lot of puppet shows.

You know, Sooty, Basil Brush, uh, Digby the largest dog in the world.

You know,-

Yeah

And we're doing a little backstage scene.

In fact, it had Jeremy Irons, Alison Stedman, myself, and Basil Brush.

It's the obvious casting.

And we're all sitting, we're pretending to be the actors playing these roles, going, oh, no way.

Yes, it's 2 p.m. queues where every week I take a celebrity guest into the Houses of Parliament to review what goes on at p.m. queues.

In the past, we have taken the likes of Prue Leith, Alan Titchmarsh, Matt Goss, Dara O'Brien and previously Basil Brush.

But this week...

As well as flagship programmes like Doctor Who, there were lots of other favourites which appeared in that late afternoon and early evening, like Basil Brush, The Pink Panther Show and The Generation Game.

There was also often a US imported TV show like Alias Smith and Jones or The Invisible Man to add to that slot.

And in 1978, something a little bit different and quite memorable came along to fill that slot.
