Bashan

So they set apart Kadesh in Galilee in the country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kirithav Abar, that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah.

And beyond the Jordan, east of Jericho, they appointed Bazaar in the wilderness of the table land from the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan from the tribe of Manasseh.

These were the cities designated for all the people of Israel and for the stranger sojourning among them, that anyone who had killed a person without intent could flee there so that he might not die by the hand of the avenger of the blood till he stood before the congregation.

This is the word of the Lord.

When the Almighty scattered kings for their sake, then were they as white as snow in Salmon.

Lastly the district north of the Jabbok and east of the Jordan was the ancient Bashan or the modern Hauran.

The fact that the country north of the Arnon had before its possession by the Amorites been so long held by Moab explains the name fields of Moab rendered in the authorized version country of Moab, Numbers 21 verse 20, as applied to the upland hills of Gilead, just as the western side of Jordan similarly bore the name of the plains of Moab or rather the lowlands of Moab.
