Let's skip to another model, which is we're going out to the University of California to Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, who are the leading authorities on the, the what's become the de facto model of the scientific-based study of leadership effectiveness.

And what I mean by that is, what is it that leaders can do to get other people to follow them? And the answer is not, can we pick better leaders? It's not about picking them.

It's about what they do once they're in that role.

Which is Mastering the Art of Doing What You Say You Will Do.

So where this comes from, I have two co-authors in this book, Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, who are my mentors.

Uh, Jim has been my most significant mentor since 1994.

And these guys have been conducting the most significant body of research on leadership on the planet for 40 years.

So there's a lot of stuff that we have in the book about how you can adopt a strengths-based approach to bring out the best in your people and that's going to make you far more effective as a leader.

And the last thing I'll mention, Steve, is that Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner are the leading exponents of science-based leadership.

And their book, The Leadership Challenge, seventh edition, is the latest copy.

Their book, Leadership Challenge, basically summarizes over 40 years of scientific research that they've done on what makes leaders effective, what makes people actually follow leaders.

I think the individual, what you model, what you represent, how people feel about your state is absolutely the way that the company is going to absorb that and infuse that into the work they do.

That makes me think of, you know, I often in work around leadership, you know, think of James Kuzis and Barry Posner's leadership challenge.

And they talk a lot about the practice of modeling the way.

And I think that that is such an important part of the leader's job because you're absolutely right.

And those places that seem like a good place to work

probably are.

I'm really glad that you mentioned Barry Posner because he did endorse my book as well.

And to me, pre-publication, that was probably the most proud moment that I've had, using that book for so many years and for him to even just agree to read it and then to give such a great endorsement.

And I'll give you a very specific example of it.

So I was hired at the Tom Peters company by the president at the time, whose name was Jim Kouzes.

And this guy became my most significant mentor.

And I learned about leadership from him and his research partner, Barry Posner.

I was in my 30s.

He spent six years as vice president of the Tom Peters Company before writing The Radical Leap, the book that introduced his LEAP framework: cultivate love, generate energy, inspire audacity, and provide proof.

His new book, The Radical Promise, co-written with leadership researchers Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, focuses on closing the gap between what leaders say and what they actually do.

And they found in their research and they identified five practices of really effective leaders.
