Barry Kitson

The loathsome reboot reformatted Flash as nothing more than a bully, after decades of character development, and Flash was once again a two-dimensional cipher with no direction.

Flashbacks by Mark Guggenheim, with art by Barry Kitson and Mark Farmer, and published in December 2008 in Amazing Spider-Man 574, tried to change all that.

The story was an in-depth analysis of Flash's time in Afghanistan, inspired by real-life events concerning US Army medic Jeff Gurin.

It's a beautifully researched, incredibly moving story, wonderfully drawn by Barry Kitson, and one of the finest war comics I've ever read for treating the subject seriously and honouring the people who serve.

I've bagged on before about how I absolutely loathe superheroes in war stories, especially World War II, but give me a good war comic, something real, and I'm there for it.

This is one of the latter.

And then they just sort of have to shoehorn her in there of like, okay, let's go.

Now the positive is Barry Kitson draws an amazingly great Supergirl.

So it looks good.

And I think Mark Waid writes a very good Supergirl, but I think the plot point of her, well, I'm dreaming and none of this is real.

Barry Kitson, wonder percent, is one of my favorite guests.

He's been a pro for over four decades, and one thing he's known for is his crisp line work that makes characters feel alive on every page.

Along his standout runs on DC and Marvel, he's especially known for teaming with Mark Waid on books like Empire, Legion of Super-Heroes, JLA: Year One.

Such a blast having Barry back on.

we know we're yeah no no yeah we know i'm not gonna mention your name completely this time Now, we got the five new Autobots, Skids, Trax, Smokescreen, Grapple, and Hoist in the story.

On the wall behind the corpse is the Legion logo painted in red and and there's a whole host of onlookers.

And now this sort of crowd scene reminds me very much of what Barry Kitson was doing in the free book because you've just got so many different aliens there.

There's no repeats that I could see.

They're just all individual creatures and peoples.

And because we do have, I just I'm I don't want...

I just had a flashback to, and it was a fun run, but you had that Superboy and the Legion, which was then, of course, renamed to Supergirl in the Legion that Wade and Barry Kitson illustrated from a few years ago, a bunch of years ago.

Which is available in on-purpose format.

Yes, I saw that, yeah.

Right? Because that's the previous version of the Legion.

Did they do anything at the end? Did they tack on like a Mark Waid, Barry Kitson short story? I don't remember.
