Barmera

He, his name is Rex Baikes, and I had never heard of him until this time about four years, well, exactly around this time four years ago.

And he had taken it upon himself to, um, mail from a little country town called Barmera in South Australia, a suitcase, his suitcase, filled with documents, um, working notes, court records, notepads, photos, all of this material.

It was a heavy suitcase.

He'd sent it to the office in Brisbane where, you know, I have an address.

He had this limited brief to just get a couple of witness statements, and so he started investigating the case himself on his own time, on his own budget.

Um, and he just continued to do that for years and years, driving from Barmera in South Australia, where he lives, all the way over to Bendigo and in between to speak to people and gather information, and he's just been very committed to trying to find more information for this case and try to prove what really happened to Roz that day.

But he reached a point where he felt that he couldn't progress the case any further, and he says that he needed a fresh pair of eyes, and he'd been, um, hearing about Chris Dawson being convicted for the death of his wife, Lyn Sims.

And so Rex just went out on a bit of a limb and sent the case to Hedley with no prior warning, and it arrived, and Hedley was, you know, really interested, both, I think, because of the circumstances of the case itself but because of the circumstances [laughs] of the suitcase just arriving like that and wondering who was Rex Baix and what was this all about.
