That was the reason they had chosen to live there.

They were divided into three tribes, Banu Qaynuqa, Banu Quraiza, and Banu Nadir.

When the Messenger of Allah, Alayhis Salatu Was Salaam, arrived in Medina, the population of the city was around 10,000, and about 40% of them were Jews.

Even though they were a minority, they were more powerful than the Arabs, especially in trade and politics, as well as in many other areas.

Immigrate into a host country as a religious refugee, increase the number of your followers amongst the minority neighborhoods, and then you have random outbreaks of violence, knife attacks, acid attacks, and so forth, and the previous inhabitants of the neighborhood no longer feel safe, and they move out, and they take over the neighborhood.

What happened to those three Jewish clans that let Muhammad in? Well, the Banu Qainuqa, Muhammad accused them of violating the treaty, declared it void, and expelled them.

The other two clans stood back.
