So at the start of this episode, you heard George VanVlanderen talking about his goats at his farm in Bakersfield in Franklin County.

About 30 years ago, George and his wife, Kristen, made a decision that would completely change their lives.

They started a farm.

George attended grad school, thinking he might pursue a career in academia.

Instead, one day he came home and told Kristen, "I think we should start a farm." And so they did.

The couple settled on a piece of land in Bakersfield with no driveway, power, water.

They lived in a yurt for four and a half years on the property.
