Baie-Saint-Paul

They went to see Luzia under the big top in the St. Lawrence Shopping Center in Ottawa.

Now, Le Cirque du Soleil, or Circus of the Sun, started out as a street troupe of performers in the village of Baie-Saint-Paul near Quebec City in the early 1980s.

They were comprised of fire eaters, jugglers, and stilt walkers, which gave them their local name, Les Echasseurs de Baie-Saint-Paul.

One of the stilt walkers, Guy Laliberté, saw that there was potential in the group, and so he proposed that they do a province-wide tour for the 450th anniversary of the discovery of Canada by Jacques Cartier, and that would be in 1984.
