It was a big inspiration for me.

And seeing Billy Gould backstage driving with a German Trabi car.

I think even so much better than people knew, like me, kind of myself as a Soundgarden fan going back to, you know, Louder Than Love and Bad Motor Finger.

Like, oh, I knew he could sing, but I didn't know he could sing sing.

Yeah, and he was their drummer at first, and they were not sold on him singing.

But the new people they brought in didn't see the writing on the wall, you know, what was about to happen in autumn of 1991, which was, yeah, nevermind.

Bad motor finger 10.

And yeah, Metallica blood sugar, right? and swan dive, you know, so they were like, right, they decided while we were in the studio, basically to pull the plug on it, and they were going to put it out because they get their tax write off.

And they put all your money that fall behind the new Lita Ford record.

I love them.

They're the one band from that time period.

I go back and listen to Bad Motor Finger and all of them.

I listen to all those records often, actually.

Rusty Cage, Soundgarden.

Don't love it as much as Jesus Christ Pose from the same album.

Amazing, amazing song, but they're both heavy metal masterpieces, alternative metal masterpieces, whatever you want to call them.

Not particularly grungy, either one of them.

The band was grungier on the earlier albums.

Ultra Mega OK, Non-Certified, Louder Than Love, Non-Certified, Bad Motor Finger.

This one comes out October 8th, 1991, produced by Terry Date.

double platinum very cool um super unknown goes six times platinum down on the upside goes platinum and then king animal not expected to certify it and it doesn't certify but yeah this uh this band got really big with super unknown this was them just becoming better songwriters rusty cage has got that crazy riff and the dropped beat and the and the great uh matt cameron drumming on it you know essentially uh what we have here ben shepherd's in the band Kim Thayil said Shepard's contributions help make the album faster and weirder.

Not only are Brian and I going to discuss what makes Badmotorfinger such a phenomenal album that still holds up today, but we're also gonna give you a dose of grunge history, including some fun facts about the term grunge itself.

Yeah, I know a lot of fans, and even the bands themselves who are part of that scene, hate the name, but its origin story is actually pretty cool and rooted in the Seattle underground rock scene.

Which

record did Rusty Cage come out with? Was that Bad Motor Finger? I don't know.

Bad Motor Finger came out, I think, later in October of 91.

But I don't know.

It's

favorites ever.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood Sugar, Sex Magic, and Soundgarden's Bad Motorfinger.

So like all seven albums were released within a span of like 44 days of each other.

So if you were a teenager back in the summer of 1991, I mean, you're probably going every single week to like the record store to pick up something new.
