I just wanted to hear your thoughts on that scene and that sort of like music video that's there in the movie.

I'm a huge Soundgarden fan, and I have been since Bad Motor Finger.

Now, that was the album before, so I remember hearing that song, but that's 90.

I'm 14.

I can look it up on YouTube.

But at that time it just nestled in my brain.

So then years later when bad motor finger came out and I, I bought that, I was like, I don't remember what finally made the connection.

It might've been another viewing of the movie.

You could point to Soundgarden.

Soundgarden, a big player at that time as well with Bad Motorfinger.

People forget that they had a couple of records that were doing pretty well on the underground.

at that time as well you know there was all of those bands the only one i could think of that really seemed to come from out of nowhere might have been like alice in chains because alice in chains came from nowhere and were big and they did one they did that one tour the clash of the titans tour with uh slayer and mega death and anthrax and them and that was it they were to the moon but you know, I, I just, um, I, I don't believe the overnight thing.

Um, so, you know, as it relates for mine, uh, you know, there's a couple different directions I could go into, but one that actually just kinda popped into my head, um, I think it's a good time for Down on the Upside by Soundgarden.

Um, you know, I think, um, you know, Bad Motor Finger is, is pretty heavy, so Superunknown.

Um, you know, so I kind of relate those maybe to fall or winter.

But Down on the Upside, there's just like, there's such a diversity of sound on that record, and even lyrically, you know, some of, Dusty, for example, is like a little bit kinda, you know, um, the, that's where they got the title, you know, Down on the Upside from.

So, okay,

your first question is the album release question, okay? So which year saw the release of Nirvana's landmark album Nevermind, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magic, and Soundgarden's Bad Motor Finger? These were all released on the same day this year, September the 24th.

Oh, that doesn't really help the date.

It was Bad Motor Finger

But you know what? By 1992, the grunge explosion happened and everything changed.

Nirvana's Nevermind and Pearl Jam's Ten and Alice in Chains' Dirt, and of course Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, they all broke into the mainstream.

Suddenly everybody wanted to know about this collaboration, you know, this incredible collaboration between Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

What was this? A&M Records saw an opportunity and they re-promoted the album and re-released Hunger Strike as a single.

The release of their second album, Louder Than Love, 1989, was the band's first album to enter the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number 108 and spawned two radio hits, Hands All Over and Loud Love.

Soundgarden's third album, Bad Motorfinger, 1991, helped usher in the mainstream success of grunge.

The album was buoyed by the success of singles Jesus Christ Pose, Outshined, and Rusty Cage.

It's been certified double platinum by the RIAA.

Let's read a little bit about this right now.

Outshined is a song by American rock band Soundgarden, written by the band's frontman Chris Cornell.

The song was released as the second single from their third studio album, Bad Motorfinger, 1991.

It became the band's first single to reach Billboard's Album Rock Tracks chart, where it peaked at number 45.

I love that as well.

Like, Badmotorfinger is probably the first metal album I ever heard.

Nice.

Like, well, that, that kind of metal.

It's called Room a Thousand Years Wide.

It was on Badmotorfinger, on the back half of Badmotorfinger.

And it was one of the very few Soundgarden songs that Chris Cornell had nothing to do with.

Kim Thayil wrote the words.

Matt Cameron, uh, wrote the music.

And it was the first one they did when Ben Shepherd joined, uh, on the bass.

They had done an early version of it, re-recorded it for Badmotorfinger.
