Backlist

Books we secretly hope a customer stumbles upon, asks us about, and eventually takes home for themselves.

Today, I'm discussing a book by a backlist author I uncovered at another indie bookstore.

Well, recently I finished something that is actually kind of outside my wheelhouse.

It's Backlist.

I read Clara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.

I actually saw the preview for the movie that's coming out on October 23rd.

The rising tide really does list all books.

We see this exact same backlist revival happening with Heritage IP, two properties that have existed for decades.

Decades or even centuries.

Oh, right.

Which, it's not high.

And we're calling Backlist

anything before this year, by the way.

Yeah.

Um, but we're happy to be back.

So today we are back with an episode that used to be exclusively on Patreon, and that is Backlist Book Case.

Now, back when Literally Reading was just a little, little baby podcast, we used to feature a book and really deep dive that book, and it was always backlist.

Now, we really enjoyed that, but over time it got to be a little bit harder because we were kind of running out of books to talk about, because we both like to read a lot of frontlist as well, although this is a great way to ensure that we read backlist.

Okay.

Now you guys, this, some people might not feel like it's Backlist Bookcase, but guess what? This is our podcast, so we get to decide.

[laughs] And it's not this year.

There are only two small sections devoted to sales, but they're lackluster to say the least.

Backlist titles, things that have been out for a while and so on.

I think that the Candle Daily Deals newsletter is official by Amazon and it is contrast to BookBub is a free independent third party service that gives customers genre preferences and aggregates e-book sales across multiple retailers including Amazon, Kobo and Apple.

So I think that Amazon trying to push their newsletter really sort of competes against BookBub, which has been around for a really long time.
